Actually it's more materialistic. Calling something honest and something else a lie, isn't a scientific observation either -- it's a judgment.
It just means someone does not like to think about consequences. The fundamental dogma of end-of-the-century American life is that you can choose whatever you want, and you never have to accept any serious consequences of your own choices. This dogma is the opposite of karma.
In reality all our choices have consequences. What happens when people refuse to accept them, is that the consequences are hidden.
