What is the Quincy Community Supper? The Quincy Community Supper is a ministry of hospitality, table fellowship, camaraderie and service offered by Community United Methodist Church, St John's Catholic Church, First Baptist Church, LIFEBOAT, and friends and neighbors like you. The members of the Community Supper Ministry Team from Community UMC are Dana Green, Angela Elliott, Barbara Elsken, and Linda Moore.
Our Mission. The mission of the Quincy Community Supper is to be a resource for the relief of hunger in our community - not simply or only the hunger of the belly, but also as importantly, the hunger of the heart.
There are a great many people in our community, from the wealthiest to the poorest among us, who are hungry. We have many friends and neighbors who contend with the reality of physical hunger - individuals and families who skip, limit, or ration their meals out of economic necessity. In addition, there are countless others of our friends and neighbors are who are hungry in other ways - for companionship, for friendship, for ways to help others, for appreciation, for respect, for an hour of respite from worries and personal troubles, for opportunities to make a difference, for peace of mind, for mutual understanding, for uplifting encounters, for alternatives to apathy, for ways to help our children experience and appreciate the joy of sharing and working cooperatively with others ...
Many of us may not have had to contend with the reality of physical hunger, but there are few among us who lack familiarity with the hunger pangs of the heart. The mission of the Quincy Community Supper is to be a resource for the relief of both kinds hunger.
Our Vision: The Quincy Community Supper is not intended to be a "soup kitchen" wherein people of privilege and superior means "feed" the poor. Rather, that it is our intention to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming environment of hospitality, table fellowship, camaraderie and service where good food is lovingly prepared and delicious meals are graciously shared. We envision people from all walks of life participating in the Quincy Community Supper in the spirit of kinship; and whether as guests, greeters, helpers or hosts, enjoying one another, connecting with one another, uplifting one another, and in so doing, satisfying one another's hungers of the belly and hungers of the heart.
Who Can Participate? You can! You can participate in the Quincy Community Supper as a hospitality volunteer and/or as a supper guest!
What do supper guests pay? Nothing... zip... zilch... nada... no charge. The Quincy Community Supper is a ministry of hospitality. Donations from guests, hospitality volunteers, and others who are willing and able to contribute to this ministry are always welcome, but the supper is freely offered. Come! Relax! Eat! Enjoy the fellowship of your friends and neighbors!
What do the hospitality volunteers do? There are lots of options for hospitality volunteers... shopping, menu planning, food preparation, serving, setting tables, clean up, meeting and greeting, playing music. You can choose to serve in whatever capacity is most satisfying for you. And best of all... nobody is expected to do more than they have the time or energy for. You can participate as a hospitality volunteer at what ever level works best for you - whether it's once a week, once a year, once in a while, or just one time. Come! Have fun! Serve! Eat! Enjoy the fellowship of your friends and neighbors! If you would like to be a hospitality volunteer or host, call 283-1740.
Blessings,
Pastor Cynthia Stateman
