In
our last news letter we explained that the Plumas Eureka Volunteer Fire
Department (PEVFD) needs volunteers and that this is a serious issue.
To fill our roster and consider ourselves sufficiently manned to respond
to an emergency at all times we need an estimated eight more volunteers,
especially people who are here during the day. In response to our previous
newsletter two people came forward who may be able to start in the Spring;
Mr. Tom Forster & Mr. Ed Yelland both from Eureka Springs. Thank
you both for your willingness to help your community and help resolve
this worrisome situation. The whole community owes these two men a thank
you because, as evidenced by the response to our newsletter, people
who are willing to volunteer to help their community are becoming increasingly
hard to find.
PEVFD does offer
its' volunteers some exciting training opportunities. First there is
the "in house" training on all aspects of fire suppression
and medical first responder operations. From operating the fire engine
with its' pumps and variety of sophisticated equipment, to manning the
Medical Rescue Unit with all of the latest medical and rescue gear,
to learning radio communications during an emergency, the training can
be as exciting and extensive as you want to make it. All in house training
is under the supervision of our seasoned Fire Chief, Gary Castagnetti,
who has over 32 years of fire suppression and medical experience. Then
there is "the off site" training and certification; 1st responder,
EMT, live fire and a host of others all paid for by PEVFD, including
travel expenses.
Give us a try,
you may like it!!
If you are interested in volunteering please contact Chief Castagnetti
at the CSD offices at 836-1953 or the Fire Department at 836-0532.
Thanks
