Peter Lassen Birthplace -
Farum, Denmark

Sven Antik of
Farum, Denmark remembers that this memorial was erected just after World War
Two. Today it still stands on the main street of Farum, near what was once the
local pharmacy. Farum is about 13 miles from
Copenhagen
and situated in very lovely surroundings. Today
Farum is a very attractive place to live, but at the
time Peter Lassen lived there, it was only a very
small village in a rural area.
Sven says, "What might sound strange to
you is that Peter Lassen is totally unknown in
Denmark.
When your president Clinton visited
Denmark
some years ago (he is the only American president who
ever did that), the whole nation watched on TV the
speeches at the gala dinner our queen gave in his honour. In his speech,
Bill Clinton mentioned the three
best known Danes. The 2 first were - I think - Hans Christian Andersen and Niels
Bohr or maybe Victor Borge and then, as the third, Peter Lassen. In most Danish
homes people looked at each other and asked, “Who is Peter Lassen?” "Even
in Farum probably no more than 5 % of the population know who he is."

The inscription says:
