Many young American servicemen compiled POW journals, sometimes called "war logs", during their captivity by the enemy. My father's journal, contained in five small notebooks, was found in storage by my Mother, Kitty Peterson. Digital scanning and transcription of the journal took nearly a year. The completed work is 102 pages of 10 point text not including sketches, diagrams, and drawings.
To reduce the "load time" the journal is divided by years and special topics:
1943 - 1944 - 1945 - Poems & Songs - Books Read - Business Study - POW Names in Journal
One of the most valuable aspects of my Dad's journal are the many names of fellow prisoners he recorded. He took care to associate an interesting anecdote with many of the individual names.
If you have a POW journal or "war log" from Stalag Luft 1, I would love to read it.
If you identify a relative while reading this journal, please contact me: [PETE]
