Lassen County California: History and Culture
This web site was created to provide a singular location for "one stop" information gathering relating to Lassen County, California. We love our County for what it was, is, and will be.
Howdy y'all... you found us in Herlong, California. Our tiny "village" is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 60 miles North of Reno, Nevada, and 45 miles south of Susanville, CA. My wonderful wife Vivian and I are enjoying our retirement amid the high desert splendor of the Honey Lake Valley in Northern California.
Robert D. "Pete" Peterson, (Sergeant Major), retired from the United States Army Military Police Corps in 1998. Pete's service began in 1972 and included assignments to; 728th Military Police Bn., Korea, Sierra Army Depot - Herlong, California (two tours), 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii (two tours), United States Army Military Police School - Fort McClellan (two tours), 1st Armored Division, 501st Military Police Company (two tours), Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and Fort Benning, Georgia. Vivian J. Peterson (Viv) completed each tour (except Korea). MP Links
Vivian, who was born and raised in Herlong , is now the West Patton Village Community Services District manager. Often called "The Water Lady", Viv manages the daily operation of the community water and sewer system. Viv is very active in the community, attends several meetings each month, and walks several miles in the desert "outback" early each morning.
Pete and Vivian spend much of their free time chasing after "Bud" who is either number two or three in their extended "Pack".
