There is a map from about 1879 which shows all the Landowners from Dundas County, Mountain Township available on the internet. The Map shows Benjamin Marquette with a William Marquette as
his Neighbor, as well as a Hugh Marquette (son of Benjamin) with Property across the Street.
Benjamin and William are shown in the 1871 Census, Hugh does not show in that Census. . Both show
USA as Country of Origin. Brothers or Cousins?
Hugh Marquet is not shown on the Census of 1881 but appears on the Township Map. The name of the witness on John Benjamin's Latin Marriage Registration could be Latin for Hugh, some thing that should be checked.

Oral History, not proven: Marquette's immigrated from France to the US in the late 1700's or early 1800's. Firstborn son was born in Michigan. There were 7 or 8 children born to this family.

(In newspaper article from 60th wedding anniversary, said that he arrived in CA. from New York in 1869.) Around the age of 16 John had left home to make his fortune in CA. His family heard from him when he was 21 and married in Petulma, CA. to Annie Falvey. John and Annie had 8 children. Later he and his family moved to Vancouver British Columbia.
Per Helen Josephine Gertrude Marquette's letter: J.B. moved his family to B.C., Canada. There some of his family was born in B.C., but all were supposedly US Citizens, because at that time the law said that one took their father's citizenship, and though J. B. lived many years in Canada, he never took out Canadian Papers. Neither did George Marquette, thus they all claimed American Citizenship.
J.B. and family lived in the Fraser Valley, in the small but growing town on Mission. A farming and logging community.
Per John Marquette. JB had a sand and gravel business at the mouth of the Frazier River.
About 1915, J.B. Marquette and his family moved across the border into the state of Washington.
