"Sparky's Party" is about the animals in Michael's urban neighborhood.
Every day Michael takes a walk and looks for wild animals on his way down to
Lake Michigan. He has seen deer, raccoons, and possums occasionally. He
loves to watch the playful antics of crows. Rabbits, squirrels, mice, geese
and ducks are more common. Some of the stores keep animals as pets and
Michael likes to visit them. The pet store has windows full of lizards,
birds, gerbils, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and many cats. Some of the
stores have dogs and birds. Michael painted them all in his charming naiive
style, with colorful flowers and butterflies.
Michael made copies of his illustrations and sent them to Maria Kotlinski.
She named all of the characters and made up a story to go with the pictures.
Sparky is a black and white spaniel. His best friend Goldie is a yellow
cat. Together they have quite an adventure.
